Summer Student – Part-Time

JOB SUMMARY:

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) will work in the capacity as an unregulated health care provider.  The PCA will report to the Nurse Manager and will work in collaboration with the nursing team under direct and/or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse.  They will participate in a team-orientated approach to patient care within the facility and will be responsible for providing a variety of tasks that enhance the overall functioning of the nursing unit and the delivery of patient care. The PCA will provide support to the Acute Care, ER and Long-Term Care departments and abide by the policies and procedures of the Atikokan Health and Community Services.

This position is a temporary summer student position that will commence May 1, 2024 to August 30, 2024 and will involve working day, evening, night, extended tours, and weekend shifts. The scheduling of these hours will be determined based on unit needs and on as an as needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Nursing students in any year of study and enrolled in a CNO approved baccalaureate or diploma nursing program
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing
  • Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to use good judgement in assessing difficult situations
  • Demonstrate a patient centered approach to providing care and services
  • Experience working in a health care environment
  • Demonstrated infection prevention and control practices
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Successful completion of a recent clinical placement in an acute care area preferred
  • Mandatory Covid-19 Vaccination.
